Dark Souls 2 Review

I’ve recently purchased the video game title, Dark Souls II. Upon diving into the dark and gruesome world that is Dark Souls II, I realized the same thing I did when I first played the first Dark Souls. This game isn’t for the faint of heart.

Dark Souls II is the sequel to one of the most challenging games I’ve ever played, Dark Souls.

The game begins with the protagonist, the Cursed One, traveling a great distance to reached the land known as Drangleic. Drangleic was once a great kingdom ruled by a powerful king, but that was long ago. Now Drangleic is is in ruins and is populated by the undead( people who haven’t moved on from this world), vicious monsters, and fearsome bosses. The protagonist travels to Drangleic to find a cure for the curse of the undead.

The start of Dark Souls II is similar to the previous game, except in Dark Souls II the player must travel a short distance before customizing their character and class. The game play is relatively the same as the previous except some minor changes, such as sprinting and parrying. Other then that veteran Dark Souls players, such as myself, shouldn’t have too much trouble playing. But for new players who haven’t played previous title, this game may prove to be more than challenging.

Upon starting the game the player is dropped into an eerie world. As the player progresses they will reach cabin with several witches. One will give the protagonist human effigy, an item the restores the undead to their human form. This also allows the player to customize their character. After doing so the player will arrive at almost a tutorial level, with many “fog gates” to inform new players how to play. Even if you are a veteran player it isn’t recommended to skip this area, for it holds various other loot that may prove useful. After passing through the tutorial level the player finally arrives in Majula, a gathering place for the undead.

In conclusion I highly recommend this game to any gamers who enjoy a challenge and a game the will take them more than a moment to beat.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is a graphic novel series/ mange created by Hirohiko Araki. This interesting series is written in several different parts, following bizarre characters. But I will be reviewing Part 1 of the series, Phantom Blood.

The series begins with the young Jonathan “JoJo” Joestar meeting the young Dio Brando, at the Joestar’s estate. Dio has arrived at the Joestar estate so that George Joestar (JoJo’s father) can repay a debt to Dario Brando (Dio’s father), who has recently deceased. The debt is for Dario “saving George’s life” after a stagecoach accident that resulted in the death of his wife. Dio is now at the Joestar estate to live with JoJo and his father, with the dark intentions on becoming close to George so that he may inherit the Joestar fortune.

From the moment the two boys meet, Dio makes it very clear that he has no intentions on being friends with JoJo. Dio displays his dark intentions by beating JoJo in a boxing match, beating and later killing JoJo’s dog Danny, making JoJo’s friends resent him, and by stealing JoJo’s girlfriend’s first kiss. All the while outshining JoJo at every turn and looking like a gentleman before the eyes of George Joestar. Jojo finally has enough of Dio’s dark ways and so the two fight. During the fight JoJo strikes Dio across the face and blood splatters on an ancient mask on the wall. The mask then extends puncture needles and falls to the ground.

7 years pass and the two have grown. Through the course of the years George Joestar’s health declines making him bed ridden. JoJo suspects this to be the foul play of Dio and investigates. JoJo concludes that Dio is poisoning his father and confronts Dio. Confronted Dio reveals that JoJo will never get any proof. So JoJo goes to London to find proof and put Dio in jail. While JoJo is away Dio feels the walls closing in on him and begins to panic. Dio then devises the plan to kill JoJo with the stone mask. Dio the goes out to test the mask on two men. Upon testing the mask Dio discovers the mask doesn’t kill mortals, but makes them immortal with a hunger for human blood. Discovering this Dio has  plans for JoJo for upon his return from London…

Overall this series is illustrated very impressive and great line work. The series is written with such originality, which almost leaves the reader on the edge of their seat. Overall I give this series a very high rating and it is one of my favorite manga to read. So check it out, to discover what fate conspires for JoJo and Dio in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 1: Phantom Blood.
